Dutch nationals make plea for Libya evacuation

Three Dutch nationals are seeking evacuation from Libya, said a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Wednesday. Their location is known to be outside of the capital of Tripoli, but when and how they can be removed is unclear.

In recent weeks, dozens of Dutch people have been evacuated by aircraft with permission from Libyan authorities. The Dutch embassy says about twenty nationals have indicated they wish to remain.

This latest evacuation plea comes after a delegation arrived in Malta Monday to negotiate the release of three Dutch military officers arrested during a rescue mission.

Breaking reports from NOS late Wednesday suggest a Dutch Air Force Hercules C 130 was en route to Eindhoven, carrying on board a military aircraft. There has been no confirmation as to whether the Dutch delegation or the captured soldiers are on board.

Dutch officials have refused to comment on the reports.
