Dutch minister wants troops back from Libya
Foreign Minister Uri Rosenthal hopes to bring home the Dutch forces deployed in the NATO mission to Libya as soon as possible. He was speaking to the BNR radio station in response to the news of Muammar Gaddafi’s death.
He expects a decision on Friday or Saturday about whether or not the mission can be ended. “Talks about this are now being held with [Libya’s] National Transitional Council,” the minister explained. “As soon as the civilian population of Libya is no longer in need of protection, the Libyan mission will end.”
Earlier in another interview, this time with Dutch Radio One, he said that Libya could now definitely begin the period of construction. “Now, swiftly an interim government and then begin steps towards democratisation and free elections.”
