THE HAGUE - Dutch Interior Minister Guusje ter Horst is calling for far-reaching measures, including the introduction of cameras on ambulances, to reduce violence against ambulance staff.
The courts are already handing out harsher sentences and fines in such cases, and the effectiveness of this measure will soon be reviewed.
Earlier in September, youths in Amsterdam threatened to kill ambulance workers who were attending to a teenage boy with stab wounds. Emergency staff went on strike for a number of hours in protest.
