8 September 2005, AMSTERDAM — Eight out of 10 Dutch men do paid work, making them the most industrious males in the European Union, according to figures released by the European statistics agency on Thursday.

AMSTERDAM — Eight out of 10 Dutch men do paid work, making them the most industrious males in the European Union, according to figures released by the European statistics agency on Thursday.

Eurostat looked at the data for all jobs of more than one hour carried out by makes from the age of 15 to 64 in the EU last year. Freelance workers were also included in the study.

The EU average is seven out of every 10 men are in paid employment. Polish men can at the bottom of the league with less than six out of 10 gainfully employed.

When women are included, the EU average comes to 63.3 percent.

Dutch women are also industrious, according to Eurostat. Apart from looking after the home and families, two out of three are in paid work. Danish and Finish women come in first and second place in terms of paid employment.
