AMSTERDAM - The Dutch Foreign Ministry issued a travel warning for Kosovo on Saturday.

The ministry said on its website the warning was issued "in connection with the tension between various ethnic groups."

Kosovo declared independence from Serbia a week ago Sunday to the anger of many Serbs, who consider Kosovo a province of their country.

Various protests against Kosovo's independence have since taken place. Dutch Serbs staged a rally in The Hague yesterday.

"The vast majority of the protesters have peaceful intentions, but we cannot rule out violence may occur. Be alert when in Belgrade and other parts of Serbia, and avoid all protests and public gatherings," the ministry said on its website.
