Dutch households see capital evaporate
Statistics Netherlands has estimated that households suffered a record loss of capital last year.
The statisticians have calculated that in September 2008, the assets held by households were 152 billion euros less than at the end of 2007.
Most of the losses were sustained in pension and life insurance reserves, which fell by 94 billion euros, followed by the total value of shares held, which declined by 43 billion. Never before have Dutch households lost so much capital in such a short period.
