The HagaZiekenhuis, one of the largest hospitals in the Netherlands, was forced to evacuate its intensive care unit last night following the discovery of a leak through the roof. A spokesman for the hospital in The Hague said the leak was minor and probably the result of renovation work.

The 16 patients who were in intensive care have been transferred to other units or to other hospitals in the region. The intensive care unit will remain closed today.

Haga Hospital was formed as a result of an amalgamation of three hospitals operating in The Hague, Leyenburg, the Rode Kruis and the Juiliana Children’s Hospital.
