Dutch high-tech car park bites the dust
It was supposed to be the Netherlands’ state-of-the-art car park - Zwolle’s new multi-storey garage was even supposed to park cars automatically, according to the NOS Dutch public service broadcaster.
The electricity required to run the high-tech car park was to be generated using solar energy. It would have been five storeys high and have space for 360 cars, but now the partially completed building is to be pulled down.
Cash Local television station RTV Oost reports that building work was suspended when metal constructions to house the solar panels were about to be put into position. Zwolle Council ordered the construction firm to complete the building or pull it down.
Rather than pay the six million euros required to finish the project, the developer chose to pull it down and start again. Apparently, four million euros has already been spent and the cash has run out. The new plan is to build an ordinary multi-storey car park.
