Dutch hand terror suspect to US authorities
The Netherlands has extradited a Somali-born terror suspect to the United States. Mahamud Omar, who is 45, was arrested last year in a Dutch asylum seekers centre. He was since held in the terrorist wing of the Vught high-security prison.
Former Minneapolis resident Omar has been accused by the US of recruiting terrorists for the Somali al-Shabab movement, which is assumed to be connected to al-Qaeda.
The Somali-born suspect acquired US citizenship in 1994. He moved to the Netherlands in 2008, where he was arrested after being charged by a US court.
