Dutch football: VVV-Venlo win first victory

VVV-Venlo have managed to secure their first victory of the season, beating RKC Waalwijk 4-1 in their third consecutive defeat.

Venlo’s goals were scored by Maya Yoshida, Yanic Wildschut, substitute Uche Nwofor and Bryan Linssen. Robert Braber netted RKC’s single goal but failed to convert a penalty in the final phase.

Heracles Almelo notched up a 2-0 away victory against bottom-of-the-league Excelsior who have yet to win a match this season. An unfortunate own goal by Samuel Scheimann after pressure by Almelo striker Everton put Excelsior ahead just before half-time. In the second half Willie Overtoom scored Heracles’ second goal.

ADO Den Haag scored a measly 1-0 victory over NEC, who suffered their sixth defeat in a row. Striker John Verhoek scored the single goal in an otherwise fairly dull fixture. In the first half NEC stood their ground but they were powerless on the offensive. ADO Den Haag wasn’t all that focused either and in the second half missed to convert several easy opportunities.
