Dutch football: Feyenoord let Ajax escape

23rd October 2011, Comments 0 comments

Feyenoord have failed to beat Ajax in Amsterdam, drawing 1-1, despite being the stronger team.

Stefan de Vrij put Feyenoord in the lead on 61 minutes but a mere six minutes later Jan Vertonghen equalised with a powerful header. By then Ajax was playing with just ten men because Kenneth Vermeer had been shown read for tackling Guyon Fernandez after he had broken through. Ajax have now failed to win any of their last five matches.

AZ secured a 1-0 home win over Roda JC, preserving their pole position, with 25 points out of ten matches. AZ remain unbeaten after eight fixtures. Rasmus Elm scored the match’s only goal shortly after half-time. Mark Jan Fledderus was shown two yellow cards, which left Roda unable to threaten AZ in the second half.

FC Twente squandered two points after drawing 1-1 with FC Groningen. Twenty minutes into the first half, FC Twente did get ahead thanks to a goal by Ola John. But substitute Suk Hyun-jun then equalised on 66 minutes. cl
