Dutch food authority warns against fake flu cures
Silverwater has not healing properties and cannot help fight swine flu, says local authority.The Netherlands – The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (VWA) has issued a warning against fake anti-flu drugs.
The authority is investigating internet sellers of so-called "silverwater" as a safeguard against swine flu.
Silverwater, or colloidal silver, is water containing minute particles of silver, which is sometimes taken as a food supplement.
VWA says it has no curative properties, and advises against purchasing the concoction.
The US food authority has traced 127 fake anti-swine flu treatments over the past three months.
More than 1,000 people have died around the world by the A(H1N1) virus, which first surfaced in Mexico in April.
