Dutch family doctors make few mistakes

Dutch family doctors make few mistakes and those they do make rarely have serious consequences, a study commissioned by the health ministry suggests.

The study examined the medical records of 1,000 patients over a two-year period. The doctors make few mistakes, the study found, because they know the patients well and work in small teams, keeping paper work to a minimum.

Most of the mistakes they make are minor, such as failing to return a call, according to the study. Serious mistakes, such as late referrals to a specialist, are rare.
