Dutch adoptive parents Marco and Brigitta Neervoort have received permission to leave Colombia after two weeks of being confined to their hotel in Bogotá.

Numerous official documents from the Netherlands have convinced the Colombian authorities of the couple’s good intentions.

Marco, Brigitta and their eight-year-old adoptive son Ruben were detained by Columbian customs officers two weeks ago. Ruben had previously been adopted by a different Dutch couple whose names were still listed in his passport.

The Neervoort family has told Radio Netherlands Worldwide they expect to return to the Netherlands at the weekend.
