Dutch cyclist wins GiroDonne 2011
Marianne Vos has become the first Dutch cyclist to win the women’s edition of the Giro D’Italia, the GiroDonne. She clinched her victory in today’s 16-kilometre time trial, having won five of the race’s ten stages.
Vos hoped for a place on the podium but says she didn’t expect to win. “It was only in the first mountain stage, over the Mortirolo Pass, that I first thought I was in with a chance of first place, but it was a tense thing.”
