Dutch crime hotline leads to 600 arrests

Some of the arrests include three people suspected of causing grievous bodily harm and a couple who smuggled 62 Filipino women into the country.

The Netherlands – A Dutch hotline, Anonymous Crime Report (Meld Misdaad Anoniem), which people can call and report crimes anonymously has led to 600 arrests.

The arrests made by the police include three people suspected of a serious assault in the eastern town of Deventer and a couple from Hoofddorp who smuggled 62 Filipino women into the Netherlands.

According to public broadcaster NOS, over 6,800 serious tips were received in the first six months of this year, 500 more than in the same period in 2008.

More people are also calling to provide information about missing persons, murder, manslaughter, hold-ups, reports of arms possession, wanted criminals and kidnappings.
