Dutch consumption of natural gas halved

2nd September 2011, Comments 0 comments

The average consumption of natural gas by Dutch households has halved in the past 30 years from 3,145 cubic metres in 1981 to 1,617 in 2010.

These data were published by energy sector organisations Energie-Nederland en Netbeheer Nederland on Friday.

According to the organisations, the decrease is almost entirely due to high efficiency boilers and improved home insulation.

Since 2008 electricity consumption has also begun to decrease, mainly because old household appliances are being replaced with more energy-efficient ones.
