BRUSSELS – A Dutch tourist has been apprehended by Belgian police at Brussels National Airport for smuggling cocaine, Belga news agency reported on Wednesday.

The 53-year-old Dutch man was en route from Montego Bay, Jamaica, to the Netherlands when police officers discovered at around 11 am on Tuesday that he was carrying 20.3 kilograms.

Packed in about 20 individual bags weighing around one kilo each, the cocaine was in a suitcase the man had not checked in, but carried with him in the cabin during the flight from Jamaica.

He was immediately arrested and imprisoned.

He may have been caught in part because his flight arrived early at Brussels's national Zaventem airport.
