AMSTERDAM — A Christian community in the south of the Netherlands was one of the organisations applying for the right for the internet domain name sex.eu.

Divine inspiration seems to have let the Kempic Full Gospel Church Rehoboth down: the application by the religious was a few seconds too late. A Swedish company heads the list of 232 applications for the domain name.

The registration period for domain names with the new European internet extension .eu began last Wednesday. The domain name sex.eu is the most prized extension.

The church, which is near the border with Belgium, paid several hundred euros to try to register sex.eu, newspaper De Telegraaf reported.

The intention was to use the domain name to "explain how wonderful sex is when practised in the manner God intended," Chris Vermeulen of the church said.
