Dutch chinooks end mission in Afghanistan
Dutch chinook transport helicopters have finished their mission in Afghanistan. The helicopters went on their last sorti on Wednesday.
The commander of the Dutch Air Task Force, Colonel Gerbe Verhaaf, flew in one of the chinooks during the last flight, which took him from a base in Kandahar to the province of Uruzgan. He said, “The boys have done a good job.”
The three chinooks have been involved in operations transporting troops and material mainly in Uruzgan in recent years. They were also used to supply water and food to various military bases and evacuate sick and injured soldiers and the bodies of soldiers who were killed. They were also used to transport ballot boxes during the recent election in Afghanistan.
