ROTTERDAM - Several thousand people in Rotterdam took part in Sunday's worldwide march against hunger. The charity walk was opened by Development Minister Bert Koenders.

The route took people across the Erasmus Bridge and through the centre of Rotterdam. The charity walk raised more than EUR 100,000 in the Netherlands, while more than a million people took part worldwide.

Participants have to walk five kilometres, the distance an average school child in a developing country needs to walk to go to school. The proceeds will be donated to the United Nations World Food Programme.
