AMSTERDAM – The Dutch are increasingly purchasing cars abroad, according to new figures from the motor vehicle department.

Most of these cars are bought in Germany. After purchase the cars are imported. The reason for the increase is new EU legislation making it easier to import cars.

Used cars are particularly popular; some 21,300 used cars were imported in the first quarter of last year. That number jumped to 27,400 in the first quarter of this year, an increase of 28 percent.
