THE NETHERLANDS -- Small and medium-sized Dutch businesses are pessimistic about 2009.
For the first time in years, 80 percent of the companies interviewed by a business research group said they do not expect to take on new personnel and that profits will shrink.
In 2008, the small and medium business sector could boast 65,000 jobs on offer.
In 2009, the industry, retail and hotel and catering sectors all expect to see vacancies decrease sharply. Instead, companies who are interviewed said the worsening economic situation would compel them to take on more temporary employees.
