About 80 Dutch businesses are in Vietnam hoping to land multi-million-euro contracts and other agreements. The trade mission coincides with an official visit by Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Maxima.

The first contracts have already been signed. The port city of Rotterdam is to embark upon an intensive collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City. There are many similarities between the two cities. Both are situated in a river delta and both are seen as vital to industry.

The contract was signed in the presence of Crown Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Maxima. The princely couple was also present when the Dutch electro-technical company El-Tec signed a multi-million euro contract with the Vietnamese company Hong Ha Shipbuilding Company.

Dutch businesses regard Vietnam as a country offering many opportunities. Its economy grew by seven percent in 2010. Vietnam joined the World Trade Organisation in 2007.
