Dutch baseball team in World Championship final
The Dutch baseball team beat the up to then unbeaten Cubans at the World Championships in Panama on Thursday night. As a result, the Dutch are certain of a place in the final.
It is the first time ever in the history of the World Championships that a European team has made it to the finals. The Dutch won 4-1.
Earlier in the day, the Holland team beat Australia 2-1 in the rain. The match against Cuba followed only 3-and-a-half hours later. Dutch coach Brian Farley’s team had already won against defending champions America and Olympic champions South Korea.
In 2005 and 2007, the men’s team came close to winning a medal, but ended in fourth place. This time they are certain of a place on the rostrum.
