Dutch arrest Indian man wanted for US bank fraud
An Indian man wanted in the United States in connection with bank fraud totalling around 150 million dollars has been nabbed at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport, Dutch gendarmes said Tuesday.
"A 40-year-old man was arrested last Wednesday (November 23) at the airport after a passport check," Joost Wezemer, the Dutch gendarmery's spokesman at the airport, told AFP.
"American authorities are looking for the man in connection with the embezzlement of 150 million dollars (113 million euros)," Wezemer added in a statement, saying the man was wanted for "large-scale bank fraud."
A Dutch court has now ordered that the suspect, who arrived at Schiphol on a flight from Mexico, remained in custody "until the United States introduced a formal extradition request".
A court in the western Dutch town of Haarlem would then rule on the request, said the statement.
