AMSTERDAM — The Dutch are the fastest cooks on the planet, according to an international study by IKEA.
Better known for selling unassembled furniture, IKEA commissioned a cooking survey of 14,000 people in 27 countries in Europe, Asia and North American. Taking all the countries into account, an average of 61 minutes a day is spent on cooking.
The Russians are the most conscientious cooks, spending 90 minutes or more in the kitchen. This comes to almost 600 hours a year.
The Dutch, in contrast, obviously feel there is more to life than krokets and hutspot. The average Dutch person spends no more than 40 minutes on cooking a meal — about 243 hours a year.
The survey also confirmed women cook more often than men. Only 15 percent of the respondents said the man in the household also cooks regularly. The majority of the cooking men are single.
