Dutch air, water and soil Europes dirtiest

Dutch air, water and soil are Europe’s dirtiest, says environmental organisation Natuur & Milieu.

Holland’s soil is seriously contaminated by nitrogen and phosphate coming from the country’s large livestock, the group finds in a newly published European-wide report, called Ranking the Stars. Surface water is of poor quality as a result of significant pollution, while air quality is low due to high nitrogen emissions.

The report says it is based on wide array of independent national and foreign reports and research projects, drawn up and carried out by the Dutch statistics office, the PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, the European Environment Agency and Yale University.
