A Turkish boat will take part in the 2012 Amsterdam Gay Pride boat parade known as Canal Pride.

This will the first time a Turkish boat takes part in Canal pride, which is scheduled to take place on 4 August.

The ProGay Foundation, which organises the event, said the Turkish group was one of 188 groups who drew lots to determine who could take part in the parade which has room for just 80 boats.

,,We are really pleased with this addition”, ProGay Chair Irene Hemelaar said. ,,The Netherlands is home to an estimated 20,000 gays and lesbians of Turkish descent, but the taboo on homosexuality makes them invisible."

The Gay Pride 2012 festival will be held between 28 July until 5 August.
