The Netherlands - Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende expects US President Barack Obama to ask him to take in former Guantanamo Bay prisoners.

In an exclusive interview with Radio Netherlands Worldwide, the prime minister said he thinks the matter will arise when they meet at the White House on 14 July.

In the interview he says, "We have already said no to this request, but we will discuss the issue. There are legal obstacles to taking in these prisoners.”

Prime Minister Balkenende points out that Guantanamo is a complex problem, but he is willing to talk about the matter, be it in a Dutch or European context.

A few hundred terrorism suspects are being held in the controversial prison at a US base on Cuba.
