Dutch Labour Party councillor arrested in Israel
Dutch Labour Party councillor Gadiza Bouazani was taken into custody by Israeli police because they thought she was one of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla activists. The Utrecht councillor happened to be in the same plane to Tel Aviv with a number of Flotilla activists.
Her Arabic name led to the authorities thinking she was one of them and she was stopped by police at Tel Aviv airport straight away.
She spent the night in a cell with 22 other women and was released the next day. The councillor was on her way to the Palestinian territories to do volunteer work, fellow councillor Sytse Koopmans told Dutch daily .
