Dutch 2012 budget leaked
The 2012 budget, commonly referred to as the ‘Miljoenennota’, can be read on-line one day ahead of its official release on Friday. The finance ministry has since confirmed that the document is authentic.
Journalist and historian Bram Talman had no problems accessing the document. “Last year the name of the web site was miljoenennota.prinsjesdag2010.nl. I simply replaced 2010 with 2011,” Talman told public news channel NOS. Talman then distributed the link via Twitter.
In the text, the cabinet points out that in the past few years the government has tried to cushion the financial blows as much as possible, but adds that there is a limit to the extent to which taxpayer can be spared. Spending power will come under pressure next year, leading to a reduction in economic growth and a larger budget deficit in 2012 compared to earlier predictions.
