HOOFDDORP – No more e-coli bacteria was found in the drinking water in Haarlem and environs as of Friday. Water samples from over the weekend showed no bacteria either, the crisis centre in Haarlem announced.

A spokesperson said that the bacteria had been found in one of the six cellars of a pump station operated by the PWN water supply company in Hoofddorp in the preceding days.

The cellar was subsequently shut off from the pipe network and has been pumped. Bird droppings that fell into the water most likely caused the contamination.

Residents no longer are being advised to boil the water before drinking, the director of PWN said at a press conference on Monday.
