Drenthe accepts punishment from Hercules
Dutch footballer Royston Drenthe has apologised for speeding in the Spanish town of Alicante in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Spanish police caught him driving at speeds of 160 to 180 kilometres per hour through the town. He also ignored at least six red lights. Spanish police fined him for reckless driving.
He said the reason he was driving at high speed was to take a sick passenger to hospital because an ambulance had taken too long to arrive.
The soccer star is contracted to Real Madrid but is on secondment to Hercules Alicante for the 2010/11 season. He says he’ll accept any punishment meted out to him by Hercules.
