AMSTERDAM — Health Minister Hans Hoogervorst has indicated he will not respond to a deadline set by doctors association LHV to distance himself from criticism of doctors.

LHV chairman Bas Vos warned on Wednesday morning of further strike action by family doctors if the minister did not respond by noon.

He also said talks to resolve family doctors' opposition to a new health policy would probably not go ahead.

Hoogervorst's spokesperson has made clear the minister has no intention of responding to the ultimatum as he has "nothing to do" with the letter in newspaper 'De Volkskrant'.

The letter was signed on behalf of the parliamentary factions of the three coalition partners. It calls on doctors to shelve their opposition to the minister's reforms of the healthcare system.

It also accuses doctors of sowing fear among the public and lying about the implications of the reforms to boost their earnings.
