Deputy minister already under fire
Flevoland's provincial Labour Party has criticised the new deputy Minister of European Affairs, Henk Bleker, on his first day at work.
Labour's provincial chairperson, André Rijsdorp said he was not amused by the ministers comments in an interview on Dutch public radio. In the interview the minister said he wants to end the development of ecological networks between major nature reserves, saying he would rather use the land for agriculture.
Mr Rijsdorp called the comments "ignorant and boorish". He said he was flabbergasted to hear similar comments to these. Although he conceded that it may be a beginners' error.
However, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation dismisses the idea that the new minister had made a mistake and said he was propagating government policy. The conservative VVD-CDA cabinet was sworn in on Thursday.
