THE HAGUE – Dental check ups for adults will most likely not be included in the basic insurance package. Young people between the age of 18 and 22 will be covered for dental care. Public Health Minister Ab Klink said on Wednesday that he is positively disposed towards this wish of a majority in Parliament.

The coalition agreement states that dental check ups will be included in the basic package once again, but Labour PvdA and Christian democrat CDA embraced a proposal on Wednesday from dental umbrella organisation NMT to reimburse dental care for young people instead. Young people will not only be reimbursed for check ups, but also for treatment. The Liberal VVD supported this plan as well.

Klink says he will take a serious look at the proposal since young people who move away from home for the first time are extra vulnerable to tooth decay. He also said it was doubtful whether more people would actually visit the dentist more often if these check ups were covered by insurance. 75 percent of the Dutch already visit the dentist regularly.
