AMSTERDAM – A large amount of child pornography was found in the search of a Dutch naval officer's home. The man from Julianadorp had dozens of CDs with pornographic material in his attic, according to sources close to the investigation.

The Telegraaf reports that the public prosecution department in Arnhem has confirmed that the home of a naval employee was search and material confiscated. The material is being examined. The authorities did not want to comment further on the case.

The newspaper says that the man's name was given to authorities in the past when the Italian police came across his IP address in a large-scale investigation into a European network. The man apparently later contacted the national police force (KLPD) and offered to “help further” in investigating child porn.

The KLPD reportedly told him that it would not appreciate this at all and warned the man that it is a criminal offence to download child pornography.

The defence ministry has started a suspension procedure against the officer, it announced today.
