Deadline for RC sexual abuse reports in Netherlands

1st December 2010, Comments 0 comments

Wednesday was the last day members of the public could report sexual abuse at Roman Catholic institutions in the Netherlands to the Deetman Commission.

The commission stresses that reports will still be filed, but they will not be included in the data on which the commission will base its report to the government.

A spokesman for the commission commented "There was a trickle of new reports but nothing unusual. People were obviously well aware of the deadline."

The Deetman Commission has received more than a thousand reports of abuse, both sexual and physical, since it was set up in March. It will offer the cabinet its preliminary advice on Thursday next week. The definitive report is not expected until November 2011.
