ARNHEM – The police have arrested infamous armed robber E.J.Q. in Arnhem, the public prosecution department announced on Tuesday. The man is known to be extremely dangerous.

Q. was sentenced to 14 years in prison in an appeal case in 2003 because of a number of armed robberies at money changing offices in Hoek van Holland and Rotterdam. The man, 36-years old now, escaped from the De Schie prison in Rotterdam in December 2001 through a ventilation shaft and has been fugitive ever since.

Q. happened to fall into the hands of police recently however. A shop assistant at a shop followed him outdoors because she suspected he had stolen something. Q. sprayed the shop assistant's eyes with tear gas as she followed him. Bystanders managed to overpower him and hold him until police arrived.

The man initially refused to give police his name. After fingerprints were taken it became clear that he was in fact wanted by the justice department. He has been handed over to the prison system to finish serving his sentence.
