ABN Amro makes all bank cards suitable for contact-free payments
ABN Amro is to swap an extra 2.4 million bank cards this year with new cards offering contact-free payments.
The bank made this announcement on 6 May, website nu.nl reports. This means that by the end of 2015, all the bank’s private customers will be able to pay for goods by placing their card close to a reader.
Contact-free payments can be made up to EUR 25 and with a maximum of EUR 50 in successive payments. Some 2.3 million of the bank’s customers already have cards which can be used to make contact-free payments and the number of transactions is doubling every month, the bank says.
ING and Rabobank are also incorporating contact-free technology into their new bank cards.
