Cyclist Wouter Weylandt dies in Giro fall

Belgian cyclist Wouter Weylandt passed away Monday from injuries sustained in a fall during the third stage of the Giro d’Italia. 

The 26-year-old fell during the Passo del Bocco descent, just 25 km from the finish. He was found motionless and bleeding heavily before paramedics arrived and he was airlifted to hospital.

Italian physician Giovanni Trredici announced the young cyclist’s death late Monday. It is the first death in a major cycling race in 16 years.
