UTRECHT – Several thousand ABN Amro customers have changed over to the Rabobank over the past months. "We see clients flocking to us," Rabobank director Bert Bruggink says in the June issue of banking sector journal Bank- en Effectenbedrijf.

"Several thousand clients" have changed over from ABN Amro to Rabobank since the takeover battle over the Netherlands' largest bank began, a Rabobank spokesperson said on Monday. ABN Amro admits it has been losing clients but does not want to cite any numbers.

It was announced at the end of March that ABN Amro had entered merger talks with British bank Barclays. A banking consortium led by Royal Bank of Scotland got involved in the takeover battle shortly thereafter.
