UTRECHT – International betting company Unibet must immediately stop offering betting on sporting events to Dutch residents.

A provisional judge in Utrecht ordered this on Wednesday in interim proceedings that the Dutch Lotto company brought against Unibet.

Lotto is the only organisation in the Netherlands to have a permit for organising sport betting. Unibet attracts Dutch gamblers with advertising featuring Dutch celebrities like Hugo Borst.

The court found in favour of Lotto last October already, and imposed high penalties on Unibet. Unibet had appealed the ruling however.
