Cooperation between police and TV pays off

Cooperation between police and television is the most effective ways of solving cases, said a spokesperson for the Dutch national police corps on Thursday. In 2010 alone, 343 cases were solved with the help of TV programme Detection Requested.

According to the spokesperson, this programme boosted police success rates to 42 percent, up from 38 percent in 2009.

Commercial broadcaster SBS 6 is also involved in police business. Images shown on that channel helped police solve one out of three cases. However, this is less than the success rate of Detection Requested.

“During that programme, viewers really sit and listen while on SBS 6 the cases come with the regular news,” explained the spokesperson.
