Consumer groups want energy bills curbed
Consumer organisations say customers in the Netherlands are being overcharged by about EUR 100 per household in a year.4 September 2008
THE NETHERLANDS -- A group of consumer organisations say energy companies are overcharging customers for gas and electricity by around EUR 1 billion in six years or an average of EUR 100 per household in a year.
The Dutch Competition Authority reports that unacceptably high profits are being made on the delivery of gas and electricity.
The five organisations involved want the energy companies to pay excess profits back to their customers. They also want the Dutch Audit Office to investigate whether the supervision of energy costs is being carried out properly.
