AMSTERDAM – The banking consortium of Fortis, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and Banco Santander has launched a website with answers to questions about its proposed takeover of ABN AMRO.

The website, online from Tuesday, is primarily aimed at ABN AMRO employees.

The consortium reports on the website that ABN AMRO's employees will end up at "extremely successful companies" in Europe if its bid is successful.

"International companies that are among the best in the world in how they invest in their employees and reward success."

The banking consortium has been in competition for months with British bank Barclays to take over the Netherlands' largest bank. A recent survey by trade union De Unie indicates that ABN AMRO employees would prefer a takeover by Barclays.

On the website the consortium adds that the headquarters will be located in Amsterdam and Brussels if its bid is successful. Barclays has already announced that it would keep the headquarters in Amsterdam.

The chance that Barclays will win the takeover battle for ABN AMRO is shrinking. The consortium's offer is more than EUR 12 billion higher than that of rival Barclays at the current share price.
