AMSTERDAM – The government is concerned about the poor voter turnout for the provincial elections on Wednesday. An investigation will be conducted into the reason for the poor turnout, and ways of improving turnout will be examined based on the results of that investigation. Deputy Prime Minister Wouter Bos announced this on Friday after the weekly cabinet meeting.

The poor turnout, 46.3 percent, is a problem for politics as a whole, Bos said. "All aspects will be examined in the investigation," Bos said. The possibility of better information campaigns as well as the need for administrative changes will both be looked into.
