HOOFDDORP – Employees of the Spaarne Hospital in Hoofddorp were unpleasantly surprised to find a discount coupon for plastic surgery in the "Christmas gift" from their employer. Most departments have decided to return it to the hospital's board of management.

As a Christmas gift this year the 1,900 employees received an agenda with discount coupons, one of which can be used at the Laser Company in Hoofddorp. The coupon grants a discount of EUR 50 on procedures at the clinic.

"A number of doctors are very surprised that this kind of coupon for the competition is being offered," said a hospital employee. The criticism from the personnel centres around the fact that only a small group will make use of the coupon.

The hospital did not have to pay for the coupons, which were offered free by the clinic. A spokesperson for the hospital says it is the gesture that counts. "It was just something nice to do. Not exactly a Christmas gift. It's the agenda."

Employees are not all that happy with the agenda, regardless of the controversial coupon. A number of holidays are listed on the wrong dates and there are other printing errors.
