AMSTERDAM – The Aliens Police in Amsterdam arrested a Colombian drug lord in the Diamantbuurt in De Pijp last week. The 30-year-old man was wanted internationally for large-scale drug trade, the Amsterdam police said Wednesday.

The suspect reportedly leads an organisation that has smuggled several shipments of tens of kilograms of cocaine from Colombia to Italy and other countries.

The police are still searching for the man's ex-girlfriend, who is also thought to be involved in the organisation. She is still fugitive and is probably not in the Netherlands.

The Colombian was arrested in the ex-girlfriend's home in the Diamantbuurt last Wednesday. He will most likely be extradited to Italy, where a prison sentence of about 17 years hangs over his head.
